IT’s because this type of canned tuna comes in a very delicious sauce that helps to bring flavor to the pasta. Add any type of vegetables you like to the dish to round it out. Or don’t add any more ingredients if you are really running short on time. Keep this recipe in your back pocket for one of those days that you really don’t have time or energy to cook. Just make sure to stock up on a few cans of hot pepper tuna.

This is a recipe for those times when you realized that the fridge is empty or when you are too tired to be bothered with chopping up ingredients. No seasoning of meat or making a sauce. This simple recipe just needs raw pasta and a can of tuna. The rest of the ingredients are all optional. I used the Korean Hot Pepper tuna because I like it's taste and the hot pepper sauce give the pasta the flavor it needs. I like to keep a few cans of these tuna in my pantry for one of those days. You can use any other types of tuna available to you as long as you add flavor or pasta sauce that you like. Simple as it is, this is still a nice pipping hot meal to have for lunch at the office. I would take this over a sandwich any day. Enjoy your lunch!

Instructions

  1. Prepare the itaki by drizzling some oil at the bottom of the metal bowl.
  2. Add pasta to the bowl.
  3. Add Better Than Bouillon.
  4. Open the can of hot pepper tuna and add it to the pasta together with the sauce from the tuna.
  5. Add frozen peas and corn next.
  6. Cover and keep in the fridge until ready to cook.
  7. One hour before meal time, add 1/3 cup of water to the hotplate area of the itaki.
  8. Place the prepare metal bowl on the itaki and add another 1/3 cup of water to the pasta.
  9. Close cover, plug in, turn on power and wait for food to cook.
  10. Tuna pasta is ready in 30 minutes. Stir and enjoy!

Notes

  • It is important to use this type of Korean canned tuna with hot pepper sauce as the sauce provides flavor to the dish.

This is another fast cooking recipe that just takes 15 minutes. I put the pepper and cabbage at the bottom because I prefer my veggies to be softer. They were perfect after 15 minutes. Beef cooks fast and is wonderfully delicious with the store bought bulgogi sauce. The wrap on the top tray gets heated up nicely and works really well with the meat and veg. This is a tasty meal and a good change from all the rice and pasta. Hope you try this out and enjoy your lunch.

  1. Cut cabbage, green peppers and mushroom into strips.
  2. Cut beef into thin slices.
  3. Marinate beef with bulgogi sauce, fried onion and sesame oil.
  4. Prepare the itaki.
  5. Add green peppers to the bottom of the metal bowl, followed by cabbage then beef.
  6. Add mushrooms on top of beef.
  7. Fold 2 pieces of wraps and place in the upper tray.
  8. Cover and keep in the fridge until ready to cook.

  10. Place metal bowl with ingredients on the itaki.
  11. Cover, plug in, power on and wait for food to cook.
  12. Food is cooked after 15 minutes. Remove upper tray of wraps and stir the beef to coat all ingedients with sauce.

Notes

  • Replace cabbage with any vegetable that you like.
  • Can use thinly sliced beef for hotpot if available.

  3. Combine all ingredients for the sauce together and mix well.

  12. After 30 minutes, stir the ingredients and add the sour cream.

  6. The mixture is enough to make 2 to 3 batches of meatballs. Place the extra amount into a freezer safe bag and keep in the freezer for future use.

    • 1 piece - chicken thigh (bone-in)

    Who would have thought you can make shrimp alfredo in the office or dorm? This recipe uses just a few ingredients but produces a nice and velvety pasta dish. Let the cooked pasta sit for 10 minutes after cooking to soak up the cream. Use bigger size shrimp so that it doesn't get overcooked easily. Enjoy!

    Ingredients

    • 100g - shrimp
    • 1/8 tsp - salt
    • 1/8 tsp - pepper
    • 1/8 tsp - garlic powder
    • 60g - fettucine
    • 1 Tbsp - butter
    • 3/4 cup - milk
    • 1 tsp - parmesan
    • 1/3 cup - water (itaki)

    Instructions

    1. Season the shrimp with salt, pepper & garlic powder.
    2. Prepare the itaki. Place fettucine at the bottom of the metal bowl.
    3. Add butter and the seasoned shrimp.
    4. Cover and keep in the fridge until ready to cook.
    5. One hour before meal time, add 1/3 cup of water to the itaki hotplate area.
    6. Place metal bowl with ingredients onto the itaki.
    7. Add 3/4 cups milk to the ingredients.
    8. Cover and turn on itaki. Wait 30 minutes for food to cook.
    9. Food is cooked after 30 minutes. Stir and add parmesan cheese. Enjoy!

    Notes

    • Use larger shrimp to avoid over cooking.

    Budae Jjigae is better known as army stew. This is one of my personal favorite Korean food. When I make this, I tend to over fill the pot with too much ingredients. (Yes I am greedy that way!) Cooking it in the itaki solves this problem as the metal pot has a finite volume. Considering the itaki is able to achieve the exact same flavor of the traditional budae jjigae, I am both amazed and happy. This stew is so versatile that you can add any ingredients that you like and enjoy a delicious and nutritious meal.

    Budae jjigae, also known as army stew, can be easily made in the itaki. Follow this recipe by layering the ingredients in the metal bowl. Although there are many different ingredients for this dish, you will be surprised that the itaki is able to produce the authentic flavor that is restaurant quality. Give this a try and you will love it.

    1. Cut smokie sausage & spam into slices.
    2. Make the sauce by mixing all sauce ingredients together.
    3. Prepare itaki. Add pork belly to the bottom. Spread them out.
    4. Add half a Shin noodle and kimchi. Followed by spam, sausage and rice cake.
    5. Add the prepared sauce, Better Than Bouillon, baked beans and fried onion.
    6. Cover and keep in fridge until ready to cook.
    7. 1 hour before meal, add 1/3 cup of water to the itaki hotplate.
    8. Place metal bowl with ingredients on the itaki. Add 1 cup of water into metal bowl.
    9. Power on itaki and wait 30 minutes for food to cook.
    10. After 30 minutes, stir and enjoy.

    Notes

    • Add more or less water according to your preference for more or less soupy stew.
    • Adjust the hot pepper flakes according to your spice tolerance.
